SHARP Error Code 11
MEDIUMCommon IssuePaper Feed Error / Tray 1 Paper Jam
Error Code 11 on a SHARP printer indicates a paper jam or a paper feed issue originating from the primary paper tray (Tray 1).
SHARP Error Code 11 specifically points to a problem with paper feeding from the main paper tray, often designated as Tray 1. This error means the printer detected that paper either failed to feed into the machine, or it encountered an obstruction very early in the paper path, usually right after leaving the paper cassette. Common causes include incorrectly loaded paper, a foreign object in the paper tray or feed rollers, worn-out paper pickup rollers, or paper that is creased, damp, or too thick/thin for the tray settings. While often a simple paper jam, Error 11 can also signal issues with the paper pickup assembly itself, such as rollers that have lost their grip due to wear or dirt, or a sensor that isn't detecting paper movement correctly. The printer's internal sensors are designed to track paper as it moves through the machine. If paper doesn't reach the first sensor within a specified timeframe after a print command, or if a sensor remains blocked when it shouldn't be, this error is triggered, preventing further printing to avoid more extensive jams or damage.
- 1
Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet to ensure safety before proceeding.
- 2
Open the front cover and carefully pull out Paper Tray 1. Inspect the tray for any misaligned paper, foreign objects (like staples, paper clips, or torn paper pieces), or overfilled paper.
- 3
Remove all paper from Tray 1, fan the stack to separate sheets, and reload it correctly, ensuring it's not over the fill line and that the paper guides are snug against the paper stack without being too tight.
- 4
Shine a flashlight into the empty paper tray cavity and gently feel for any torn paper scraps or obstructions that might be lodged near the pickup rollers. Remove anything you find.
- 5
Locate the paper pickup rollers (usually rubberized rollers visible at the front of the paper tray cavity). If accessible, gently wipe them clean with a lint-free cloth dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol. Allow them to dry completely.
- 6
Close the paper tray and any open covers. Plug the printer back in and power it on. Allow it to initialize.
- 7
Attempt to print a test page. If the error persists, try using a different ream of paper, as sometimes the paper itself can be the issue (e.g., damp, curled, or incorrect weight).
- 8
If your printer has multiple trays, try printing from a different tray (if available) to see if the issue is isolated to Tray 1.
You should consider calling a certified SHARP technician if, after performing all the DIY troubleshooting steps, the Error Code 11 persists. This is especially true if you suspect worn-out or damaged paper pickup rollers, a faulty paper sensor, or if there's a jam deep within the paper feed mechanism that you cannot safely reach or identify. Attempting to force components or disassemble parts without proper knowledge can cause further damage to the printer, leading to more costly repairs.
